Competition Terms and Conditions

Welcome to Dance Fitness by Dame Darcey Bussell DBE, a dance competition hosted by DDMIX (Darcey Bussell Ltd), conceived and produced by Purple Shows Ltd designed to get boys and girls active and excited about fitness through dance.

In addition to the website "Terms of Use", which can be found here, these Competition terms of use tell you who is eligible to participate in the Competition and how those eligible people (mainly teachers, referred to sometimes as "you" within these terms) may do so. These terms of use sometimes refer to the DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd collectively as "we, "us" or "our". The Competition website and its content are usually referred to as the "Dance Fitness Competition".

You may only participate in the Dance Fitness Competition if you agree to these terms of use. If you do not agree, please do NOT participate in the Dance Fitness Competition. These terms of use limit the DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd liability and disclaim warranties for the Dance Fitness Competition as permitted by law. These terms of use also explain how your contributions to the Dance Fitness Competition will be used by the us. Please read these sections of the terms of use carefully.

    1. The personal information that you provide will be handled safely and securely, for more information about how each company handles individual's information please visit our separate privacy policies. DDMIX’s privacy policy can be found here and Purple Shows Ltd can be found here.
    2. We will only use your information to administer this Project and will not contact you for any other reason unless we have your permission to do so.
    3. The registration information provided by you may be shared with specialist companies providing services to us for the Competition. These companies are not permitted to use your information for their own marketing purposes.

    3. GENERAL

    1. All data is opt-in and fully GDPR compliant. The Data Protection Act 2018 regulates the processing of personal information, setting rules for processing and increasing individuals' rights to control how information about them is used. You hereby grant the Purple Shows Ltd and DDMIX (Darcey Bussell Ltd) permission to hold your information for the duration of Project and its wind down.
    2. DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd reserve the right at their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition and/or your involvement with the Competition at any time.
    3. These terms and conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom.
    4. You should only register for the Competition if you are authorised by your school to participate and provide the information required by the us. By registering you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions on behalf of your school.
    5. Any content on the Dance Fitness Competition that is not otherwise identified is copyright of either DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd or our partners to the Project.
    6. The Dance Fitness Competition website may contain links to third-party websites. These third-party websites are not under either DDMIX’s or Purple Shows’ control. If the we have included these links in the Dance Fitness Competition, we provide them to you as a convenience only. The inclusion of these links is not an endorsement by us of any third-party website, service or product. We reserve the right to disable links to any third-party website that you post on the Dance Fitness Competition.
    7. DDMIX and Purple Shows may update these terms of use from time to time so please review the relevant pages on the Competition website regularly. If you access the Dance Fitness Competition you agree to be bound by whichever version of the terms of use is in force at such time.


    1. Teachers who want to enter their school in the Competition should register their contact details using the instructions given on the Competition website.
    2. The DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd will validate every registration request it receives and may use contact details provided by teachers to verify that the information provided is accurate. Please make sure that any contact details you provide are accurate and up to date.
    3. Only online registrations will be accepted.
    4. The closing date for registrations is 31st January 2019 at 11:59pm.


    1. The number of children in a participating group should be between 24-30 pupils. Only one group per school are permitted to enter the competition.
    2. The competition 2019 is open only to groups of children in school years 3 to 7 (ages 7-12 years old).
    3. The competition 2019 is open only to schools with the Council areas of Salisbury, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Aylesbury, Cardiff & Aberdeen.
    4. Schools that have registered for the Competition will receive a video file of a DDMIX dance routine performed by Dame Darcey Bussell DBE and her team. School teams are required to rehearse their routine and submit a video recording for entry to the competition . This video recording of your school group shall be your school’s entry for the first stage of the competition.
    5. The films should be rehearsed by the schools privately and not shared, as you are participating in a competition. There are five different genres of fitness dance routines, each school will receive access to one of these chosen at random. Changing of your given video is not permitted.
    6. The essence of this competition is fitness through dance for school children, not complex choreography.
    7. DDMIX Darcey Bussell Ltd has asked that school teachers and anyone you give access to and any organisations involved in your performance ensure to the best of their abilities that the dance film from DDMIX and distributed by Purple Shows Ltd is kept safely so that it is not shared through any media especially on social media, to protect copyright in the films.


    1. Only schools that have registered before the registration closing date can submit a video entry to the competition.
    2. The closing date for video submissions in each region are as follows;
      • Salisbury: 29th April 2019 at 11:59pm
      • Liverpool: 29th April 2019 at 11:59pm
      • Portsmouth: 29th April 2019 at 11:59pm
      • Newcastle: 29th April 2019 at 11:59pm
      • Cardiff: 29th April 2019 at 11:59pm
      • Aberdeen: 29th April 2019 at 11:59pm
      • Aylesbury: 29th April 2019 at 11:59pm
    3. Only videos entered online via website will be accepted as submissions to the competition. The online submission form can be found here.
    4. PROPS are not to be used in the recorded dance routine.
    5. Costumes can be worn. Judging will be based on the quality of the performance and the enthusiasm of the dancers.
    6. The video submission should be a wide shot that includes all dancers, full video recommendations can be found here.
    7. The maximum file size of the submitted video cannot exceed 2 GB (Gigabytes).
    8. Before being judged, video submissions will be briefly viewed to ensure that they have uploaded correctly and to ensure they can be played/judged by Darcey Bussell. A video may be converted to a different video format if necessary to allow it to play on Purple Shows system.
    9. When a video is shared with Darcey Bussell the school's name is replaced with a unique code so she does not know which school she is judging.
    10. The videos will only ever be viewed by employees or contractors of Purple Shows Ltd and DDMIX Ltd to administrate the competition and the videos will never be shared on social media or to third parties.
    11. Six months after the competition closes all submitted videos and backups will be deleted.


    1. DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd reserve the right to add or reduce competition days, number of groups participating or move the competition locations due to unforeseen circumstance.
    2. Any change in competition days, number of participating groups and/or times is at the sole discretion of DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd and will be determined by the amount of time available at each regional final venue.
    3. The school dance groups selected to perform at the regional finals will be based on their performance in their submitted video entry.
    4. Submitted videos will be judged by Dame Darcey Bussell DBE, and all her decisions will be accepted as final.
    5. All school dance groups that submit a video entry for the competition will be notified whether they have been selected to participate in the regional finals via the email address they used to register for the competition.
    6. Schools will be notified if they will be participating in the regional finals by late April early May 2019.


    1. It is the responsibility of the participating schools to ensure they have the correct number of adults with DBS certification, care and safeguarding accreditation for the number and ages of children in their dance group. Preferably this would include the teacher who registered the group for the competition. DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd are not acting in a care or safeguarding role of your school pupils; nor are they acting in loco parentis.
    2. Performance Times: All successful school dance groups taking part in a regional final must compete on the date and time assigned. You will be notified of this schedule by email to the registered teacher. Timing is subject to change and is at the sole discretion of DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd. Please alert DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd staff via if there are any scheduling issues.
    3. The organisers, staff or representatives of DDMIX and Purple Shows are not responsible for any claims for damages, loss or injuries sustained while taking part in any activity related to the Dance Fitness Competition. All schools must have their own liability insurance.
    4. All schools are responsible for their dancers, parent and guardians behaviour. Anyone failing to follow rules of the Dance Fitness Competition or causing a disturbance will be asked to leave the competition. We hold a zero tolerance of verbal abuse to any staff member or partners of the Dance Fitness Competition.
    5. No form of liquids (including water), gels, aerosols, glitter, or confetti, etc. which may affect the stage surface, may be used during a routine.
    6. Please leave changing/practise areas as you found them, any damage/mess made by your school may be invoiced for the damage or cleaning if necessary.


    1. Contestants will be judged by Dame Darcey Bussell DBE, and all her decisions will be accepted as final.


    1. Tickets for the regional finals will be available to the schools and the general public to purchase when the finalists are announced.
    2. Details of the process to purchase tickets will be communicated once successful school dance groups are confirmed.
    3. Children aged 16 and under MUST be accompanied by a paying adult. A maximum of 3 children in the care of 1 adult.
    4. Child tickets are for those aged 2 to 16.
    5. Toddlers and babies under 2 are free and do not require a ticket. However please note that you may not be able to take pushchairs into the theatre and may be asked to leave them outside with a member of staff.
    6. All events are general admission unless stated otherwise.
    7. No professional camera or visual recording equipment (small handheld cameras without enhanced lenses are permitted).
    8. No audio recording equipment.
    9. No animals (except those trained to assist the visually impaired).
    10. No food or drink permitted unless for medical reasons.
    11. Bags may be subject to search.
    12. No refunds issued unless the event is cancelled by DDMIX and Purple Shows Ltd.
    13. Ticket holders consent to being photographed, filmed and sound recorded as an audience without payment, and to their image being used by the promoters in all matters relating to the event and any future promotions.
    14. The promoters reserve the right to refuse admission, void tickets and/or eject, without refund, anyone who refuses a security (person or belongings) search, fails to produce proof of identity or age, are under the influence of alcohol or drugs or in their opinion, may provoke a breach of the peace, jeopardies the health, safety and enjoyment of others, or damage the reputation of the event.


    1. Entering the Dance Fitness Competition you are giving permission to be on social media with the use of competitors photography and videos (Facebook, Instagram, twitter etc.)
