DDMIX - Dance Fitness by Dame Darcey Bussell DBE, supported by local councils are calling schools in their area to register to take part in the inaugural year of this exciting health & fitness competition.

In this first year the regions are; Salisbury/Wiltshire, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Aylesbury, Cardiff, & Aberdeen

Each school who registers will film themselves performing one of Dame Darcey’s fun Diverse Dance Mix fitness routines, then submit it for judging.

The choreography will include a variety of styles such as Hand Jive, Japanese 1980’s and more.

The shortlisted schools in each region will get to take part in a regional final. They will perform their dance routine at a local venue in front of Dame Darcey and a live audience for a chance to be crowned the regional winner.

How it works

  • A film of Dame Darcey and her team performing one of four different DDMIX dance fitness routines will be sent to each registered school in February 2019
  • Each routine lasts approximately two and a half minutes
  • Schools then rehearse their routine which will be challenging but not overly complex or difficult. When the routine is ready, the groups will record themselves using anything from a smartphone to a video camera
  • The group size should be between 24-30 pupils and is open for children in school years 3 to 7 (ages 7-12 years)
  • Schools will upload their entry video via a form on this website which will be available for submissions in March 2019
  • Dame Darcey will judge the submitted videos without the schools being identified
  • The top 7 entries chosen by Dame Darcey in each region will be invited to compete in their local final
  • The finalists will be confirmed in May 2019
  • At the final the groups will perform their DDMIX routine in front of Dame Darcey and a live audience at a ticketed event in the region
  • The live regional finals will be taking place in the following UK regions;
    • Friday 31st May - Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury
    • Thursday 6th June - St George’s Hall, Liverpool
    • Saturday 8th June - New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth
    • Saturday 15th June - Sacred Heart Catholic High School, Newcastle
    • Saturday 22nd June - Waterside Theatre, Aylesbury
    • Saturday 29th June - Cardiff West Community School, Cardiff
    • Saturday 6th July - The Music Hall, Aberdeen
  • Darcey will announce the winning school at the show (parents/carers of performers will be given priority access to buy tickets for the event)
  • The overall winners will receive a trophy and perform their routine again to close the show
  • All participating finalists will receive a certificate signed by Darcey and a group photograph
  • The full competition terms and conditions can be viewed here
